Building Homes in Joplin, Missouri

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

Monday, February 27 marked a new beginning for six families in Joplin, Missouri. After a tornado completely destroyed their homes and a large portion of their community nine months ago, these families have been staying with relatives, just waiting for the day they could once again have their own place to call home.

The beginning of that dream happened on Monday with the groundbreaking of six brand-new homes. Convoy of Hope, an organization out of Springfield, Missouri, who we’ve partnered with in Joplin since the May 22 tornado, hopes to complete these homes by the one-year anniversary of the disaster.

We’re honored to come alongside them to fully fund the building of two of those homes. Helen Owen and Lee Lansaw are the recipients of the two homes the friends and partners of Joyce Meyer Ministries are helping to build. The homes will be built using a new type of forming system, which can withstand 200 mph winds, and will make the homes extremely energy efficient.

Helen lived in her home since 1957 and says her only desire is to finally be able to go home. In the plans for her home, she requested they leave the slab where her two-car garage once sat. “I plan to make that into a patio for the kids. All of the holidays are a big deal at my house. They all come and Grandma cooks. Thanksgiving is always the biggest around here.” Thanks to your support, she’ll be hosting family dinners very soon.

Lee lost his wife shortly before the tornado. While searching through the debris, Lee was able to find one of his wife’s purses. He now carries all of his important documents in that remaining treasure. Retired and living on a fixed income, there was no way he could have afforded to rebuild. But thanks to your support he’ll be living a safe, brand-new home.

Thank you so much for coming alongside us to help reach out to those in need in Joplin, Missouri.

Rescuing, Raising and Rebuilding in Uganda

Shelly Meyer–Hand of Hope International Relations Officer

At the ages of 4 years and 6 months old, these two brothers live at Baby Watoto* in Uganda. Their mother contracted HIV/AIDS and died, and they were left in the care of an elderly uncle who was having a very hard time caring for such young children. Both boys are also HIV+ and the youngest was also severely malnourished. In addition to providing a safe and loving environment to live in, Baby Watoto is also providing intense medical treatment and support to help stabilize their health.

Thank you to our partners for helping Baby Watoto to rescue, raise and rebuild the lives of these children.

*Watoto is a holistic care program which was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned and vulnerable children and women in Africa. Orphaned or abandoned babies 0-2 are brought to Baby Watoto and given proper care, medical support, nurtured and provided unconditional love.

Liberated in Lesotho

Brad Senekal – Outreach Director, Joyce Meyer Ministries South Africa

We recently had the opportunity to meet two beautiful young women who were rescued from the horrors of human trafficking by the Beautiful Dream Society safe house in Lesotho. We have the honor and privilege of supporting this amazing organization as they help women who were once trapped in human trafficking. These two young women have had a few challenges since being rescued as neither of them speaks the native language of Lesotho. The good news is that not only have we been able to rescue them from a life of trafficking, we have also been able to share the word of God with them through Joyce's books translated into their native languages of Amharic and Chinese as well as through Joyce's TV programs, which are also available in Amharic and Chinese on tv.joycemeyer.org.

As they each were given time at the computer at the safe house to watch Joyce's teachings in their own languages – for the first time since being trafficked in Lesotho, they were overcome with joy. They did not want their computer time to end! They laughed, smiled and continued talking about Joyce's teachings and how excited they were long after the programs were over. Not only have they been set free physically, but they are being set free spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. Never underestimate the power of reaching someone with the love of Christ in their own language. It is the support of our partners that make all this possible – thank you!

Joyce's Enjoying Everyday Life program is available in 39 different languages at tv.joycemeyer.org.

Join Us For a Coalition of Compassion

Hopelessness remains in the world today because of indifference. Churches can no longer stand by and do nothing for the poor and hurting. We are in a time when there are so many people living in our own backyards that are oppressed and desperately need a hand of compassion extended to them in Jesus’ name.

The Greater Things Compassion Conference was birthed from a coalition of church leaders committed to the idea of doing more for compassion together than apart. We invite you to become a part of the coalition of compassion and make plans now to join us and other church leaders on February 21-23 at Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge, LA, for this unique compassion-training event. We will be equipping the local church to bring hope to the hopeless and the light of Christ to the lost. For more information visit greaterthingsarecoming.com.

Register today to attend and receive $150 worth of compassion resources for FREE. You will leave this conference educated, inspired and equipped to serve your community in a greater way!
