Humbled in Ethiopia

Kim Schmied – Hand of Hope

As an employee of Joyce Meyer Ministries, I am well acquainted with the work we are doing around the world. It has touched my heart for a number of years, but nothing compares to experiencing it firsthand. This month, I had the opportunity to travel to Ethiopia and participate in our Hand of Hope medical outreach. No amount of pictures, magazine articles or broadcasts could’ve prepared my heart for what I would encounter.

I saw extreme poverty and malnourished babies literally weeks from death. I saw people of all ages suffering from physical and emotional pain that I cannot comprehend. I saw young girls stricken with fear as they live trapped in the sex trade industry. I saw devastation at a level I have never experienced before. But more importantly I saw solutions.

I saw physical pain relieved. I saw bellies filled. I saw girls rescued from human trafficking and a momma being reunited with her baby. I saw our medical volunteers treat 2,110 patients, prescribe 7,625 prescriptions and lead 433 people to the Lord! I watched as love surpassed cultural barriers to mend broken hearts, ease heavy burdens and restore hope to those who feared it was lost forever.

I am humbled to be a part of what God is doing in Ethiopia and to be a part of a ministry that is making an eternal impact in that nation and many others around the world.

Feeding Iraqi Refugees

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

Noury was living in Mosul, Iraq when the school his children attended was bombed. The explosion injured his children's hands and heads, but they survived. The children had already been persecuted at the school for being Christians. The danger that was already a large part of their daily lives was growing. Life became unbearable for Noury; he had to leave his job and was forced to sell his car in order to pay for the passports and tickets he and his family needed to move to Lebanon.

In Lebanon, Noury found that life wasn’t any easier. He had to spend all he had for rent, sacrificing one of the most essential needs, food. His five children, too young to work, left him as the sole provider. The monthly food distribution his family receives through Heart for Lebanon, a ministry partner of Joyce Meyer Ministries, he says, is a gift from God. This is just one of the many ways Heart for Lebanon is making a difference in the life of refugees. Thank you for your support that helps feeds those who suffer because of the Gospel.

Supporting Skills Training in Djibouti

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

One of our Hand of Hope Directors, Gary Preston, and I recently visited this skills training site in Djibouti. This center is supported by Hand of Hope and teaches the trade of sewing so women will have a chance to move out of the refugee camp where most have lived for many years.

As a result of many conflicts and the Somali war, the UN has set up this camp in Djibouti. This part of the world is a very poor and incredibly warm area. Temperatures can reach 120 degrees in summer, although it was a cool 100 degrees while we were there. As you walk throughout the camp the hope we all take for granted is not very evident, but projects such as this one take steps towards restoring that hope. Thanks for helping us help these precious people.

Providing Tornado Relief in the U.S.

Joyce Meyer

Recently, natural disaster struck in my own hometown, and the devastation broke my heart. When this happens, you tend to take it personally…like your own family is hurting. Through Hand of Hope and your financial support, we are always poised to help in disasters anywhere in the world God allows. So when tornadoes struck in the Southeastern US and the St. Louis area—my backyard—I was so grateful we were able to act and reach out with a comforting hand in Christ's name to help rebuild and restore those affected. Because when your loved ones are hurting, you want to help in any way you can. Reaching the world begins at home.

So as we team up with churches and other organizations in these areas, I hope you will join with us in prayer for our "family's" needs to be met and for our teams to get the supplies and support to help rebuild their communities.

Providing Clean Water in Somalia

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

As night falls you can tangibly feel the fear sweep across this city. Somalia, a country at war with itself for over a decade, shows the effects everywhere. The poverty and desperation are obvious. Due to the danger we were escorted everywhere we went by 2 armed vehicles, 9 guards in total. We were never allowed to remain in any one place longer than 15 minutes. We are in one of the port cities where much of the pirate activity generates from. Hand of Hope has teamed up to dig 10 wells across this barren land. It seems like so little…Please pray for Somalia.
