Children Who Raise Children

Shelly Meyer–Hand of Hope International Relations Officer

Today I met a lovely little eleven year old girl named Levi. Eleven year old girls should be playing jump rope and reading books about ponies and kittens, but Levi is the head of her household. She is raising herself and three younger children all on her own. She is both Mom and Dad to two little girls who are nine years old and her little brother who is four. She has to make sure they have food, clothing and a roof over their heads. Children like Levi are the reason that Hand of Hope has teamed up with the Centre for Total Transformation (CTT) in Harare, Zimbabwe, to feed and provide education and the love of Jesus for vulnerable kids like Levi. She and her family walk six miles everyday to the Hope Center to receive a good meal and basic education and the word of God. I will never forget the smile on her face as she counted to ten for me and said the alphabet. In that smile I saw hope in the face of a child who only a few months ago was struggling to survive from day to day with no hope or help, but now she has both thanks to you.

Hand of Hope is the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Our goal is simply to help as many hurting people as we possibly can, to alleviate human suffering and to help Christians grow in their faith.
