Medical Team Back in Papua New Guinea

Ashley Wilkins - Hand of Hope Medical Missions Coordinator

It is great to be back in Papua New Guinea with our medical/dental team for a one week outreach! Last year we spent a few days in a settlement called 6 Mile, which we returned to this year with the medical/dental team. The people of 6 Mile call themselves “The forgotten people of Papua New Guinea” because at one time it was a very dangerous place to visit and no one ever came to see them, especially foreign medical teams. They have a tremendous need for medical treatment and we have been very busy cleaning wounds, pulling teeth, treating tuberculosis, malaria, HIV and many other ailments.

One of the pastors here thanked me over and over again for returning, not only because we delivered medical care, but also to shine the light of Jesus Christ. As we left 6 Mile today, it was visibly obvious that the people have a joy and hope that they did not have before. The people know that they are not forgotten and that it is God who has not forgotten them.

Thus far we have treated 1,620 patients and more than 160 have given their hearts to the Lord this week! We are looking forward to God doing more incredible things through this medical outreach during the rest of our time here.

Sharing the Word in Iraq

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

Recently, we had the opportunity to distribute Bibles, along with some of Joyce’s books, to families in Iraq. We are able to meet this thirst for more of the living Word not only through distribution of Bibles, but also with Bible studies groups that are meeting each week. It is marvelous to see the readiness of the Iraqi refugees to serve one another in the different ways that they can. A beautiful spirit of love and compassion toward one another has been spread amongst them, more explicitly manifest during the last couple of months, in a community where every family has endured much suffering from killings, kidnappings, threats, and other various kinds of loss.

We Cannot Do it Alone - A Haiti Update

Sherry Burnette: Co-founder, Love A Child

There is a Haitian Creole proverb that says..."Yon sèl dwèt pa manje kalalou." It means "You cannot eat okra with only one finger." To me it means, "You sure can't do it alone..." and we can't. Every day we realize we need one another.

Toward that end, we have a construction team made up of many people from a variety of different areas helping us build homes for some of the people of Haiti displaced during the earthquake that devastated this country earlier in the year. Everyone on this team has great individual talents and we are grateful they are coming together to bless the poor in Haiti! It is great to see so many hands and hearts working together for the Kingdom.

These homes are so very important to the people of Haiti because they offer long-term housing solutions in a time when humanitarian experts are discouraging the use of tents and tarps for housing as they are not able to withstand the extreme weather conditions in Haiti. We are also so thankful that Joyce Meyer Ministries - Hand of Hope has sponsored the first fifty houses in this project. These homes are being built for amputees who are currently living in Camp Hope at Love A Child.

Please continue to pray for us and the people of Haiti as we rebuild.

Feeding the Underprivileged in Australia

Tom McKaskill - Director - JMM Australia Office

Jock Bamford, saved from a life of alcohol addiction, one day put together twelve sandwiches and gave them away. Little did he know that some fourteen years later he would be running a ministry that would be giving thousands of dollars worth of food away each week. Jock, a partner with Joyce Meyer Ministries, conducts the Loaves and Fishes Streetmeet Care Service, feeding hundreds of people daily from the Loaves and Fishes main office in Kingston Australia, and two "Battlers Supermarkets” located in Kingston and Marsden, south of Brisbane. He also actively feeds people at different locations throughout Logan and Brisbane with the street outreach vans.

His fleet of trucks can be seen daily travelling between markets and food suppliers to his food assistance locations. He proudly displays on each vehicle the sign, "Hand of Hope, Joyce Meyer Ministries." We are proud to be partnered with such a great ministry as Loaves and Fishes, which is actually out in the street doing as Jesus would do.

Home Opens for Sex Trafficking Victims

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

On Tuesday, June 29, 2010, we officially opened a new home in Thailand for victims of sex trafficking called the Gabrielle House. Building of this facility was fully funded by Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope.

There are over 800,000 women trapped in the sex trade in Thailand. More than 200,000 are under the age of 15. This home will be a refuge for some and save them from a life of misery. After we rescue the girls we will restore them spiritually, emotionally and teach them a trade. Special thanks to the Cliffords for making this possible.
