Providing Relief to Christchurch, New Zealand

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

On Tuesday February 22, a 6.3 earthquake struck Christchurch, New Zealand. Hand of Hope is working with two organizations in the area, Parachute and Life Church in Auckland, New Zealand to provide relief to those in areas impacted by the earthquake.

Assistance is being provided with hospital visits, temporary living arrangements and relief shelters for the thousands who are moving to Auckland because they’ve been displaced by the damage caused by the earthquake. Bottled water is also being provided as 80% of Christchurch is without suitable drinking water.

Many thanks to our partners and friends for your generous contributions to Hand of Hope, because of you we are able to directly help those in need affected by the earthquake.

Hand of Hope is the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Our goal is simply to help as many hurting people as we possibly can, to alleviate human suffering and to help Christians grow in their faith.

Patience in Ethiopia

Scott Norling – Director, Joyce Meyer Ministries India Office

Recently I had the privilege of meeting Patience at the Hand of Hope Medical Center in central Ethiopia. Patience, who at 8 months of age weighs less than 10 pounds, is struggling for her life. She has left an image of helplessness with me I will never forget. It was humbling to watch community volunteers’ labor to prepare bags of food that go to families like Patience’s that will save lives and restore hope. I mentioned privilege because although she does not know it, she has reminded me of the simple priority of loving people first and always ... the message of God’s love often lies in the doing.

Dr. Honeck and his team at the Hand of Hope Medical Center are restoring dignity and hope to over 100,000 people in this province by providing food, medical services and counseling; they are saving lives, they are living out Gods plan of love and redemption. Today I know Patience has a chance at life because of the love of this amazing team. What a privilege to be a part of what God is doing here in Ethiopia.

Saving Children in Cambodia

Matt Bell – Chief Operating Officer, Hand of Hope

Nearly 4 years ago, our teams visited Phnom Penh, Cambodia and witnessed one of the most heart-breaking places they had ever seen. In the heart of the city is a huge garbage dump where children as young as 3 and 4 years old have no other choice than to scavenge amongst the trash for items they can sell just so they are able to eat. I had the opportunity to visit that very place and see the difference Hand of Hope is making.

For several years now, 2 coach buses retro-fitted as classrooms pull up to the trash dump to provide these children with basic education and a nutritious meal, and most importantly share Christ’s redeeming love every day. All of the children looked so healthy and were full of joy. This feeding project is literally saving the lives of children and giving them a hope for their future.

What a Day's Journey in Indonesia

Shelly Meyer–Hand of Hope International Relations Officer

We started our day very early and flew to Semarang in Central Java, Indonesia. Then we boarded a truck for a 2 hour journey up into the remote predominantly moslem mountain region of the Pepe.

Then the fun began. The truck got stuck in the mud which left us with no choice but to walk the remaining hour. We were so thankful when about a half an hour into the walk a kind man gave us a ride. It was all worth it when we arrived to beautiful smiling children who were awaiting our arrival. We fed them and handed out gifts then the journey back. All in all the journey took 12 hours but it was so rewarding to know those kids are being helped.

Saving Children in the Golden Triangle

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

For years the area known as the Golden Triangle has been famous for its drug trade. At Hand of Hope we are trying to make it famous for happy, healthy, God-loving kids.

This week we visited 15 of our projects in the countries of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (the Golden Triangle). Thousands of kids are fed and hundreds live in Hand of Hope children's homes. We have also built several churches and dug fresh water wells in the area. In one project that I first visited 5 years ago it was so great to see how good the kids looked now. When I was there the first time there were so many signs of malnutrition, but not this time. God loves kids!

Rescued from the Horrors of
the Sex Industry in Thailand

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

Today was such a great day as we got to see the first 16 girls rescued by the Gabrielle House in Thailand. We opened this home in June of 2010 and the change in these girls in that amount of time has been incredible. They are learning about the love of God instead of the twisted version they had been exposed to. They are also being taught a trade so they can support themselves after they leave the home.

For these 16 girls that battle is being won. Please continue to pray for the millions of other girls who are still trapped in the sex trafficking industry.

Resources to China

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

I just completed a 3 day visit to very remote parts of China. We were able to meet with some of the sweetest people from the underground church there. I am always so humbled every time I get to do this as the level of commitment that the Chinese believers have is astonishing. We had the opportunity to distribute a brand new book with a DVD of several of Joyce's Enjoying Everyday Life TV programs in Mandarin Chinese and they are so appreciative.

Over the years we have distributed hundreds of thousands of books all over China. We could not have helped these precious people without the faithfulness of our partners. The Chinese church says thanks!

Relief for South Africa Flooding

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

Intense rainfall just outside of Durban in the rural area of Harding, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa has resulted in heavy flooding in the month of January. Many people have died and thousands have been forced to leave their homes due to raging flood waters. Given their frailty, small tin-shack homes in this region are especially at risk.

Hand of Hope is working in the affected areas to provide much needed relief. Families who have been devastated by the flooding are being ministered to, receiving prayer, food supplies and assistance with housing options. Thanks to the partners of Joyce Meyer Ministries for helping to support these relief efforts.
